Kyochan
Hi, I'm Kyo-chan! I love Miyazaki and I'm currently working as a volunteer for the revitalization of Nichinan City. I lived in Tokyo for 3 years selling vegetables from Miyazaki and also working as an event organizer on the side.
Very few people come to Aburatsu to go sightseeing, but it's actually so much fun when you have a local guide...and that local guide is yours truly! Let's go!

Udo Jingu Shrine
This is a shrine whose construction date is unknown, with the main God enshrined known as Hikonagisatake Ugayafukiaezu no Mikoto. In the mysterious natural caves that face Hyuga-nada, one can see vivid shades of red/orange inside. During the Heian era, this area was popular as a path of training and worship. In front of the main shrine, one will see the Turtle stone spirit stone. If one throws a "Undama" (which is 5 100 yen coins in a row) into the holes of the spirit stone, it is said that the thrower's dreams will come true.
Sun Messe Nichinan
This is a theme park near the bay of Nichinan City. It is famous for its replica Easter Island Moai statues, the originals being known as one of the 7 wonders of the world. There is also a large area with galleries, restaurants, bathing facilities and pastures, which you can explore with the rental trolley cars.
Nichinan Coast
This is a coastal area in southern Miyazaki prefecture. It is known as one of the greatest drive and touring routes along the Auto Route 220. With the spectacular coastal view by one's side while driving, visiting drivers can enjoy driving along the curves of the natural coastline. The nearby Aoshima Beach is also a popular surfing spot for beginners and pros alike.
Cape Toi
This is a cape at the southernmost tip of Miyazaki prefecture. Close to the backdrop of the pacific ocean, wild Misaki horses inhabit the area. The horses were originally bred for war purposes and this area was used to house them, but now remains today as a natural habitat for them. At the eastern point of the cape, you will find the Toi lighthouse which is situated at 255 meters above sea level, which has been lighting up the local landscape since 1929.
Kirishima Onsen
This is an Onsen which is at the halfway point up Mount Kirishima. It has 300 years of history, and is famous for apparently being the first place used as a honeymoon destination, by the Sakamoto Ryoma couple. After the war, various "snack" bars (small pub like bars, often with Karaoke as well), and souvenir shops are aplenty, and has therefore become a popular tourist Onsen.
Chiringashima Island
This is an uninhabited island that floats in Kagoshima Bay. From around March to October, an 800 meter-long sand beach known as "Chiririn road" appears, and it is possible to walk to Chringashima island during these months. As it is a path that links two islands, it is also known as a place to bring fortune in love, and so is popular among couples.
Senganen Garden
This is a world heritage park built in 1658 by Shimazu Mitsuhisa. It is famous as a place where Tenshoin Atsu-hime who was married to the Tokugawa Shogunate, visited, with its magnificent scenery with Kagoshima bay as the garden pond. At the end of the Edo period(1603-1868), the remains of the steelmaking and glass production sites were preserved in the premises, making it a precious industrial revolutionary heritage site.
Yatogi Falls
This is one of Japan’s top 100 spectacular waterfalls situated in the center of Miyazaki prefecture. The water falls from a height of 73m and is a sight to behold. It is said that emperor神武 sharpened arrows under the waterfall, and it is from this that the waterfall takes its name, which literally translates to “arrow sharpening waterfall”.
Ibusuki Onsen
This is an Onsen at the southernmost tip of Satsuma peninsula. It became a popular honeymoon destination after the war, and was known as the "pacific Hawaii". While the views of the outdoor bath are amazing, many visitors come for the unique "sand steaming bath" which can be found in Surigahama beach.
