A peninsula protruding into the sea of Okhotsk. The area contains a veritable menagerie of natural treasures, such as the Island owl, White tailed eagle and Black woodpecker, as well as the Sperm Whale and brown bear. It is for this reason that one can see evidence of the Ainu people having hunted here.
This is a caldera lake in Akan Mashu National Park. It is known as the second most transparent lake in the world, after Baikal lake. With a depth of 211m, very little light other than blue light is reflected, creating a beautiful deep blue effect, giving it the name of "Mashu blue" in Japan.
